Facing tough criticism since the inception of his campaign, GOP candidate Newt Gingrich responded to tough questions on his campaign run. The author of “A Nation Like No Other” said “none of the people who decided I wasn’t a candidate anymore were with me in Iowa, South Carolina, New Hampshire, Georgia, California.” The former House speaker said he’s concerned with the substantial number of issues facing our country – creating jobs, repairing the housing market and rising energy costs – and that this will be a long campaign, so he’s not concerned with current polls showing him only 3 percent of GOP primary voters prefer him as a candidate. Newt also weighed in on a Time Magazine story discussing a constitutional divide in the media, of which he said is appropriate because it’s one of the issues at the forefront for the 2012 election. Finally, on the debt ceiling and the ongoing battle in Washington, Newt said, “If the Republicans in the House pass a debt ceiling that includes substantial spending cuts, a debt ceiling which includes a balanced budget amendment, and the Republicans in the House do their job, it seems to me the burden then is on the president. Is he really going to veto that and create a default?”
